Are FDA rulings affected by special interests?
I would say that its appears FDA rulings are influenced by special interests groups.
The FDA is a powerful organization in this country. But the drug companies are a close second in the medical world and probably the top special interest group.
One huge recent relationship exposed was the Vioxx drug controversy. The FDA apparently gave its stamp of approval to this drug when apparently the drug company knew Vioxx was dangerous to consumers. But of course, the drug created huge profits for the drug company as it was an expensive drug. I remember receiving samples from the doctor’s office and taking them.
How sad was it to know that the consumers’ lives were in definite peril over this drug. The FDA is suppose to protect consumers not try to kill them.
I think an independent organization needs to investigate the relationship between the FDA and the drug companies. I am concerned that the drug companies are maybe running their own shop and ripping off the public in terms of health questions and high prices.
