There’s stupid, incredibly stupid… and then there’s the Bush political machine

Hmm… I guess the question Wednesday morning will be whether scheduling the Saddam death announcement for Sunday morning was good or bad timing.

Hussein’s defense attorneys…accused the Bush administration and the Shiite-dominated government of Nouria al-Maliki of colluding to scheduled the verdict so it came two days before crucial mid-term elections, hoping to give Bush’s Republican Party an electoral boost. Iraqi and U.S. officials have denied the charge.

On the plus side for Republicans:

  • it’s newsy enough to survive a couple of ‘cycles’, so we can expect they’ll be able to milk it through Tuesday
  • it provides a happy distraction… any distraction of any kind would seem a happy distraction
  • it’s got "death" in it, so the biblical crowd will feel satiated in a way they just aren’t getting from the latest synthetic fat substitutes

On the minus side, a process that already seemed rather unlikely to result in anything short of a death sentence is colored with yet more appearance of prejudice.

This has been years in the making - couldn’t they have waited a few days knowing that there are elections in America? Of course they could have… that’s the point. It can only be that the timing was manipulated because nobody that is independent and wants to appear independent would ever be so damned stupid or reckless as to conclude what they want to appear as a fair trial in the two days prior to an election they can reasonably expect could be affected.

A hat tip to the first GOP politician in a tight race that points out how he or she represents the party that brought you Saddam’s head on a TV Dinner tray.

Nope… no WMD’s under here….

I guess I’m not smart either…

From God’s making me work overtime, we are treated to a faux pas from Kerry. (Faux pas is French by the way - for those of you that cringe when you hear the word, "French")

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

It sounds to me like the subject is education and the purpose is to get kids to understand that studying and working hard can help you "do well".

The hype over this statement is really just about the desperation of Republicans at the last minute. Kerry isn’t on the block…they may as well be following Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter around looking for openings to attack. (I’m curious, by the way, at which reporter it was that was hand-picked to ask the question of Snow).

Kerry is a guy that made the effort to be smart AND made the effort to volunteer for duty. Recall what Bush did before and during Vietnam?

Bush went on to send thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of others to their deaths in an adventure to overturn a regime that didn’t attack us, didn’t plan to attack us, and didn’t have the means to attack us.

When that guy says that a joke that war volunteer John Kerry made about the botched Iraq adventure is "insulting and it is shameful", a disgusting and offensive cloud of stink rises over America.

Oh…but it’s just that Kerry’s joke is in such bad taste! How can you make fun of such a thing?

…yes… how can you make fun of such a thing…. insulting and shameful indeed… Oh, how quickly they rush to judgment!

What’s the death count on John Kerry’s "joke" so far?
