I am disturbed that Rice wants to set up an arms deal with Egypt and Israel. Not because they don’t deserve it, not because they don’t need it, but because that would be just adding fuel to a fire in an attempt to put it out.
Heavily arming Israel isn’t going to make the extremist Muslims in the middle east suddenly disappear. They will only get more crafty, more deadly, and will probably get more funding from someone else. They’re getting weapons and equipment from somewhere, and that somewhere has enough money and power to cover their own tracks.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has announced a proposed $13 billion military aid deal with Egypt and a $30 billion military package for Israel.
Rice said the U.S. is seeking to support the forces of moderation to counter what she called the negative influences of Iran, Syria, al-Qaida, and Lebanon’s Shi’ite militant group Hezbollah.
An Iranian spokesman accused Washington of spreading fear in the region.
It really is amazing the lengths we will go for securing a source of oil. I mean, for god’s sake, why not just invade and occupy those countries like they used to do back in the day?
What ever happened to old fashioned conquering? But I suppose this is conquering in a way. We have a major military presence in the region, and anyone who disagrees with us gets a missile up their ass. As long as the people in "control" of the oil agree with American politics, and agree to sell it to America for cheap, then no one dies. See Syriana for more details on that.
The simple problem is that it looks like the GOP just wants more violence in the region. They aren’t interested in peace, they aren’t interested in humanity, and they aren’t interested in having mercy. Its kill all them A-rabs for the southern cowboys in office.
But thats America. What would we be without our history of neoconservative republican reactionism and lack of education? We’d be some wonderful country in Europe, thats what we’d be.
