I told you! The religious are wrong again!

In the continuing saga of the conservative religious having ideas that don’t work, I bring to you an argument I’ve made countless times on this site. Only this time, there is even more evidence.

[RxPG] A recent study of four abstinence education programs finds that the programs had no effect on the sexual abstinence of youth. But it also finds that youth in these programs were no more likely to have unprotected sex, a concern that has been raised by some critics of these programs. The study found that youth in the four evaluated programs were no more likely than youth not in the programs to have abstained from sex in the four to six years after they began participating in the study. Youth in both groups who reported having had sex also had similar numbers of sexual partners and had initiated sex at the same average age.

Abstinence only education isn’t education at all. Its the moral imposition of a boundary that has no basis in reality. Not only is sex vital to man’s survival, but it is also good for you.

Trying to convince kids that not having sex until marriage is the way to go not only corrupts our youth, but creates a stigma around sex that leads to unwanted pregnancies and STDs.

So, maybe anytime a religious person suggests something, we should do the opposite.
