Doesn’t this bother anyone else?

I don’t know what it is, but something about abuse by authority figures rattles my core.  I get sick when I see police brutality, military abuse, and government crack downs on civil rights.

NEW YORK — Jail guards at a federal lockup have been charged with viciously beating two inmates, and in one case trying to conceal the attack by making it look like a suicide attempt.

An indictment charges 11 former and current corrections officers at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn with violating the civil rights of the two inmates in separate assaults in 2002 and 2006.

I’m glad that these guards got caught and are getting in trouble, but I can’t imagine how many prison abuse scandals go unpunished. The prison system is a travesty in the United States. Abusing prisoners isn’t honorable.

Where has these people’s sense of morals gone? I understand that a lot of these inmates may be total assholes, but that doesn’t elicit abusive violence. A real man, someone with courage, would be able to stop violence with words and actions other than abuse.

Prosecutors allege that one victim was beaten and stomped for "disrespecting" Lopresti by refusing an order to remove a T-shirt tied around his head. The supervisor and other officers responded by beating and kicking the inmate so severely it left "a pool of blood and clumps of the inmate’s dreadlocks on the floor of the cell," court papers said.

In the second incident, last April, officers allegedly entered a cell and beat the victim as punishment for fighting with another inmate. A female lieutenant "looked on and taunted the inmate," court papers said.

The officers, while transporting the handcuffed victim in an elevator to a high-security unit, purposely tripped him so he fell face-first onto the floor, the papers said. When he put up a struggle, the guards swarmed and allegedly stomped him into submission.

If that doesn’t bother you, then you’ve got problems. You have to wonder who these guards are? What type of person gets their kicks off of power tripping? I guess a lot of types of people. A lot of these people become cops as well. There needs to be much better psychological screening for this type of problem.

These people get all twisted around acting dominant and being in charge, often resorting to violence to try and bolster their special position within the community.

The best cops are the ones who maintain and excellent calm and sense of respect in heated situations. I respect that much more than the meat head who roughs up bad guys.

Enjoy.
