Right now I am an American living in Beijing and I know protests and even speaking about the issue is looked down upon. I just want you to know THAT I AM NOT JUST SAYING THIS BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE I AM BEING WATCHED!!! I actually could get in trouble for the this post.

I believe Tibet should be part of China.

I went to Tibet last year before the shit hit the fan and it completely changed my opinion on a sovereign Tibet. It is a tiny mountainous region and an economic death trap because of the lack of resources. A sovereign Tibet would be completely void of foreign capital and economically not well off. China has been investing money in Tibet to build roads and infrastructure, once that money is gone Tibet will be screwed. The problem in Tibet is the culture is not very accepting of outsiders. The idea of having Tibet as an Autonomous region is a perfect solution and has worked for a while. The coming of the Olympics has stirred up the region a little bit. It is a misconception that all Tibetans want independence, in fact it is a minority of people in Tibet that are pushing for independence. The only criticism I have of the Chinese government is giving Chinese entrepreneurs the green light to go into Tibet. There should be more effort put into letting Tibetans receive the capital instead of Han Chinese that move there for economic benefits. The Chinese government should make more effort to build schools in the region. People from foreign countries do not understand how China works. Simply put, THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT PUT UP WITH SHIT. Small crimes have harsh punishments, so there is almost no crime. When I go out at night and get drunk I know that I do not have to worry about getting mugged and there no homeless sleeping on the street. If you are causght selling drugs in China you are executed, thats why it is hard to find a drug addict. My best analogy is: When the US has a mouse problem it uses a mouse trap, when the US has an elephant problem it uses an elephant gun. When China has a mouse problem it uses an elephant gun, when China has an elephant problem it uses an elephant gun. What will get most likely get rid of the mouse? The elephant gun. Most people do not understand that it is just a way of doing things, how would the US government react if a small group of Californians wanted to make their state a country?
