You may remember my high praise for this film. I had not realized until today that the people in Romania, who Cohen portrayed as Kazakhstani villagers, had been duped. Never even suspected it. I have no sympathy for the person that willingly gets drunk and volunteers that he thinks slavery was a good idea, but it’s another thing entirely to trick innocent people as Cohen allegedly did in Romania.

Once again John Bolton’s fate is in the air. Shortly after the White House sent Bolton’s nomination back to the Senate, Lincoln Chafee said he won’t back Bolton’s confirmation and Democrats are sure to block a vote on the President’s controversial nominee now anyway. Short of a miracle, it looks like Bolton will be stepping down in the near future. Perhaps most striking about the story though is this fine example of bipartisanship:
From The Washington Note:
Nancy Pelosi’s office would not comment on the President’s failure to inform her of the White House’s new moves on the controversial US Ambassador to the United Nations.
However, Pelosi’s office did confirm that (a) the President mentioned nothing about re-starting the Bolton process again and (b) Speaker Pelosi opposes him firmly — arguing that his brand of diplomacy has seriously undermined America’s interests and our ability to achieve our national security and foreign policy objectives in the United Nations.
The President’s office released word of the Bolton nomination at 1:22 p.m. to the public — about 7 minutes after Nancy Pelosi actually left the Oval Office.
