Re: Has the coalition forces’ military action in Afghanistan been successful?
I want to caveat my response by saying that this has been somwhat succesful. There have been some selective ‘wins’ in this Afghanistan that should not be ignored.

When I was there four years ago, I’d have said we stood an excellent chance of making the effort into a success.
Not having been back, I’m not in a good position to say firsthand that the effort was in vain.
But I do no that there are places I could go with some confidence four years ago, which now, the groups I visited have abandoned - and such places are growing.
Be cautious when considering press coverage - particularly televised coverage. I went places in 2002 that the Western press was, for the most part, afraid to visit (save a few hardy correspondents with real guts). Every time you see photos of children playing in a new school, bear in mind that the Soviets showed precisely the same images when they "liberated" and "democratized" Afghanistan 20 years ago…and the final ending was equally tragic.
