I Wish the Virgin Mary Kept a Diary

Now that would be an interesting read! I can just imagine the first entry. Dear Diary: The Angel of the Lord came to me in a dream last night and told me I was going to give birth to the savoir fo the world. Wait til I tell Betty at the well tomorrow!

She then had to marry a man she had not slept with, go to his hometown for the census and give birth in a stable! She had the normal parental responsiblities of raising a child, teaching him right from wrong, respect for others, making sure he studied and knew all the things he would need for His life’s work. So, did she prepare Him to be a preacher or a carpenter? Maybe both, based on his trip to the temple as a young boy. Then He proceeded to stay home until he wad 30 years old! What was she thinking? We get upset if our children don’t apply themselves in school, don’t want to finish college, etc. She knew what His life was meant to be, how did she react during all His time at home, working with Joseph as a carpenter?

All of these are unknowns. But I would like to nominate Mary as the first religious of the Catholic church. She had more influence on Jesus than anyone else, and she obviously did an excellent job. So, my question. If the Virgin Mary was good enough to raise the Son of God, why are women not allowed to be priests?

Hey, that’s just my nickel.

The same reason priests aren’t allowed to be mothers.

    Hey Boo,

    You make an excellent point.

I also wonder about those missing years. Why would Herod be so determined to try and murder the savior as a baby, but while this baby, AKA Jesus, is growing up his life is basically normal–(except for the mention of that one time as a 12 year old boy teaching the scribes in the temple.) Interesting, too, to think that not long after the birth of Jesus, who was to be the prince of peace, it brought so much bloodshed when Herod had all the baby boys murdered in an attempt to eliminate this savior.

Could you please give me a simple, Reader’s Digest version of why the Catholics favor Mary so much? That I know of, it is the only religion that does this.

Not to put words in BooMac’s mouth, but I think this WAS a blog about why Mary is favored.

The Virgin Mary was conceived without original sin. She did not have the sin of Adam and Eve on her soul, she was pure and able to give birth to the Son of God. She is the Mother of God, in simpler terms, it doesn’t get much better than that. And it always amazes me when people think Catholics do not value women because we do not have women priests. While I believe there should be women priests, there is no higher calling than being a mother. The Church stance against abortion bears that out.

Most powerful prayer in Catholicism, the Rosary, used at all times. ” Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen. ” Sums up our devotion to Mary, religiously.

I will have to respectfully disagree with you about Mary not being with original sin. I cannot find in the Bible that Mary was sinless. Sure she was ‘highly favored by God’ but it doesn’t contend that she was without sin. Every person who will ever walk this earth, except for the Lord Jesus, has this sin disease.
