From Reuters a scientists tries to prove that Jesus walking on water wasn’t so miraculous after all:
Nof used records of the Mediterranean Sea’s surface temperatures and statistical models to examine the dynamics of the Sea of Galilee, which Israelis know now as Lake Kinneret.
The study found that a period of cooler temperatures in the area between 1,500 and 2,600 years ago could have included the decades in which Jesus lived.
A drop in temperature below freezing could have caused ice thick enough to support a human to form on the surface of the freshwater lake near the western shore, Nof said. It might have been nearly impossible for distant observers to see a piece of floating ice surrounded by water.
Nof said he offered his study — published in the April edition of the Journal of Paleolimnology — as a "possible explanation" for Jesus’ walk on water.
Now, lets for a moment consider that Jesus had went onto a Mountain to pray and sent his Apostles away in the boat. So what does this mean? This means that in the middle of a storm, Jesus spotted a piece of Ice and surfed on the slippery thing all the way out to the middle of the Sea where the apostles were several miles away. He stayed on board the thing all the way out there, not getting washed away despite the fact he was in the middle of a storm. (Matt 14:24). What would I call a guy walking on a piece of floating ice in the middle of a storm, and steering it from one side of the lake to the middle with this storm going on. I’d call it a miracle. Of course, the miracle according to Dr. Nof gets even bigger in Matthew 14:28,29:
And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
Okay, so now this indicates that Peter was walking a little ways. He walked on the water, to get to Jesus and then fell when he lost sight of the Lord. That indicates he was walking a number of feet. So, probably this piece of ice in Dr. Nof’s non-miraculous explanation was about 10-15 feet long. I think I’ll just stick with the original.
While many may not believe the Bible, hopefully can all agree that scientists could find better ways to spend their times than finding natural explanations for unexplainable biblical miracles.
